news: water bottles yanked

"Canada's largest outdoor-goods chain has pulled water bottles and food containers made of polycarbonate plastic from its shelves over worries about the chemical bisphenol A, which has been linked to cancer and reproductive problems in animals.

Vancouver-based Mountain Equipment Co-op became the first major Canadian retailer to stop selling products that contain bisphenol A over fears the chemical can
leach from plastic food and water containers.

"Inconclusive science and regulatory uncertainty presently surrounds bisphenol-A (BPA)," the company said in a statement."

Back to glass

I expect this also impacts Brita (and similar) water pitchers as well as pop bottles. Since aluminum has been linked to alzheimers, and stainless steel tastes metallic, I guess we should probably go back to using glass and ceramic like the good ol' days.

We did recently switch to

Eliminating plastics: we did recently switch to tap water decanted into a glass pitcher (to let the gas disperse)... but I'm still concerned with the water quality. We have a lot of construction around our place, so there's always a chance of a waterline getting contaminated (happed last year: brown water) - and then there's potentially lead... I do want minerals in my water but not that one! (...as for flitering water, I tested brita and tap water with ph strips, and found the brita water was more acetic, which isn't very healthy.)

It's about time! Brita

It's about time! Brita won't even answer when asked which #code plastic it uses. Scary too - many new developments use pvc piping for our main water lines. Although the water doesn't sit in it for long periods, if you are away...remember to run your water when you return.

Plastic Water Bottles

I personally have a group of people that I email health related information to. I did an article a few months back on plastic water bottles and the dangers of chemicals leaching into the water. I am glad to see that finally a big company is standing up and making changes. If anyone is interested in reading my article, email me and I will forward it to you. I have also done an article on xeno-estrogens that are in most beauty products due to the preservative "Parabens" that are used. If you would like to read this article, again email me and I will forward it to you!
